D a n n y L ip fo r d s a y s : If the vinyl siding on your
home has seen better days, painting it can be a great
way to boost curb appeal. Choose a paint color no
darker than the siding, because dark colors absorb
heat, which causes vinyl siding to expand and warp.
First, the siding should be cleaned
thoroughly with detergent and w ater to remove
any dirt or mildew. A long-handled scrub brush
works great for this, as does a pressure washer.
Make sure the w ater is sprayed
downward to keep it from being
forced behind the siding.
If the siding is slick and glossy,
it will need to be roughed up first
with medium- to fine-grit sandpaper.
Then two coats of a high-
quality exterior acrylic latex paint
can be applied to the siding with
either a brush or sprayer.
